Waitapu Estate ‘Intrepid’ Pinotage/Tempranillo 2012

Blended Red from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 11-Jun-2014
50% Pinotage and 50% Tempranillo, fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged in oak for 24 months. Moderately full, dark ruby-red colour. The nose is elegantly proportioned with tight and intense aromas of vibrant and lively, spicy dark-red berry fruits, black pepper, fresh herbs and oak. Medium-bodied, fresh and bright, red berry fruits are enlivened by crisp, brisk acidity. Spice notes, pepper and oak add interest, and the flavours are supported by firm, grainy tannins. The extract and the acidity enhance the firm core and linearity, which carries the wine to a long, sustained finish. This is a fresh, vibrant and fruity Pinotage/Tempranillo blend with raciness and a firm palate. Serve with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 4-5 years. 16.5+/20 May 2014 RRP $29.95
