Wairau River ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Viognier 2015

Viognier from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 22-May-2016
Bright, very pale straw colour with light lemon-green hues. This has an elegantly proportioned nose with well-concentrated and tightly bound aromas of fragrant citrus fruit, floral blossom and orange zest. Steely and refreshing herbal nuances and nutty oak add detail. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features rich and juicy, mouthfilling, broad flavours of succulent citrus fruit with notes of orange zest, exotic flowers, unfolding delicate nutty elements. The mouthfeel is rounded and plush, with very smooth flow and mellow textures. The acidity is low, adding a degree of unctuousness to the wine. Fine phenolic textures emerge and the subtle grip carries the wine to a near opulent finish of citrus and tropical fruit. This is a soft, luscious and generous Viognier with citrus fruit and zest flavours and a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3 years. Fruit from Sam Rose’s vineyard, WBP and fermented, 18% by indigenous yeasts, in seasoned barriques to 13.0% alc. and 4.9 g/L RS, the wine aged 12 months in oak with 82% MLF. 17.5+/20 May 2016 RRP $30.00
