Wairau River ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Viognier 2012

Viognier from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 13-Jun-2014
Brilliant straw-yellow colour with pale green hues, very light on edge. The nose is deep and densely packed with softly full apricot aromas along with exotic tropical fruits and ginger, entwined with steely florals, herbs and musk nuances. Dryish to off-dry in taste and full-bodied, sweetly rich and luscious fruit flavours of apricots and exotic florals are supported good phenolic textures forming a firm core, with crisp, cutting acidity and alcoholic power adding to the palate line and drive. Some honied elements emerge and add to the richness and the palate flows with good slipperiness to a dry-textured, solid and dense finish with some alcohol warmth. This is a powerfully driven dryish Viognier with firmness and richness. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern inspired cuisine over the next 3-4 years. Third crop fruit from Sam Rose’s vineyard, hand-picked fruit fermented in stainless-steel with 10% in seasoned French oak to 14.5% alc. and 7.3 g/L RS. 17.5+/20 Jun 2014 RRP $30.00
