Wairau River ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 13-Jun-2014
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with a black heart and lighter garnet hues on edge. This has a full, deep and solid nose of ripe, dark red berry fruits with spicy plums, lifted by herb and minerally elements, revealing savoury oak and complexing earthy nuances. Medium-full bodied, fulsome and up-front fruit flavours of dark berries and black plums are entwined with spicy oak and dark herbal notes. The mouthfeel is rounded and filling with a robust fruitiness, the tannins fine-grained and discreet in the background, and balanced by good acidity. The flavours recede gently to an even, linear finish with good length. This is a fulsome, up-front dark fruited Pinot Noir with plenty of spicy oak. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-6 years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Home Block’ and Sam Rose’s vineyard, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in French oak barriques. 18.0/20 Jun 2014 RRP $40.00
