Wairau River ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 13-Jun-2014
Fruit from the ‘Home Block’ and Sam Rose’s vineyard, hand-picked and fermented in 1 and 2 y.o. 500 L puncheons to 13.5% alc, the wine aged 12 months in barrel with minimal lees work, but 100% MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is very full and broad with harmoniously integrated aromas of savoury citrus fruits, with mealy, creamy barrel-ferment and nutty, buttery MLF complexities that open out in waves. This is showing secondary development and has come together beautifully. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly concentrated, rich and luscious, with opulent flavours of ripe citrus and tropical fruits and seamlessly interwoven with nuts, toast and butter. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with soft acidity enhancing the round, mouthfilling flavours, and delicately refined textures that guide the wine to a long and sustained finish with toasty oak and butterscotch MLF nuances. This is a soft, rich and harmoniously integrated Chardonnay with creamy and buttery flavours. Match with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. 19.0-/20 Jun 2014 RRP $30.00
