Wairau River ‘Reserve’ Botrytised Riesling Marlborough 2012

Sweet Wine from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 13-Jun-2014
Bright, light golden-yellow colour with good depth, lighter on edge. The nose is rich and decadent with concentrated aromas of ripe apricots, marmalade, honey and crystalised fruits, revealing talc botrytis and hints of caramel, along with integrated, lifted elements. Very sweet, luscious and opulent, flavours of marmalade, tropical fruits, honey and musk form a harmonious and unctuous mouthfeel. The flavours are stylishly restrained, and the acidity is soft and lacy, but the palate exudes decadence and honied nectar notes, flowing seamlessly to fill the mouth. The richness drives the wine to a very long, succulent and plush finish. This is a seamless, opulent, botrytised Riesling dessert wine to match crème caramel, crème brulee, rich fruit desserts and blue cheeses over the next 4-6 years. Hand-picked botrytised fruit from the company’s ‘Rapaura’ vineyard, fermented in seasoned French oak barriques to 10.5% alc. and 220 g/L RS. (375 ml) 18.5+/20 Jun 2014 RRP $35.00
