Waipara West Waipara Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 19-Aug-2013
A range of over 10 clones, including Dijon, Pommard, 10/5, and Swiss, from two upper terrace blocks, fermented partially with whole clusters to 14.0% alc., the wine aged one year in new and seasoned French oak. Fullish, dark, deep ruby-red colour with slight purple hues. This has a fresh and intense nose of bright, ripe, dark raspberry fruit aromas with good concentration and depth. The aromas are primary in expression and unfold softly. Medium-full bodied, an excellent core of bright, juicy, dark cherry and berry fruits reveals notes of kirsch, violet florals and a touch of dark herbs. Oaking is unobtrusive. The tannins are fine-grained and provide a firm, underlying linearity with lacy acidity enhancing the sweetness of the fruit. There is harmony and balance to the mouthfeel and the flavours lead to a fine, lingering and dry finish with cherry-berry nuances. This is a bright and succulent Pinot Noir with youthful cherry-berry flavours and finely balanced palate. Serve with poultry and pork dishes over the next 5-6 years. 18.0/20 Aug 2013 RRP $35.00
