Waipara Hills ‘Equinox’ Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-May-2013
Fruit from 59% the ‘Mound Vineyard’ and 41% ‘Home Block’, hand-picked, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins and aged in 30% new French oak. Medium-deep ruby-red colour with light purple hues on rim. The nose is fresh with bright and vibrant, primary fruit aromas of dark raspberries, cherries, violet florals and nuances of spicy oak. Medium-bodied, this is slender in presentation with a tight line of bright raspberry fruit at the core. The mouthfeel is cut by fresh acidity, along with a little alcohol drive adding to the linearity. Grainy, youthful tannins show, but the palate is reasonably supple, allowing accessibility. Dark raspberry fruit features on a crisp, dry finish. This is an elegant, dark raspberry fruited Pinot Noir with a firm, but fine mouthfeel. Serve with tuna, poultry and Asian-inspired fare over the next 4-5 years. 17.5/20 May 2013 RRP $33.00
