Waipara Hills ‘Equinox’ Waipara Valley Chardonnay 2012

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-May-2013
Clone 95 fruit from the ‘Home Block’ hand-picked, WBP, and barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc. and 4.8 g/L rs, the wine aged 5 months in 30% new French oak, undergoing batonnage and approx. 50% MLF. Bright, full, straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues, pale edged. The bouquet is very soft, gentle and restrained with light citrus and white stonefruit aromas, unfolding subtle flint, mineral and nutty elements. Some butterscotch MLF adds to the layering. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and refined with stylish flavours of citrus and stonefruits entwined with intricate mealy and nutty notes. The mouthfeel is fresh from lacy acidity, poised with creamy butter and nutty textures from the barrel-ferment and MLF. The flavours follow a fine line that lead to a tight, crisp and moderately long finish. This is an elegant and refined, fresh Chardonnay with subtle layers of flavour. Match with seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. 18.0-/20 May 2013 RRP $33.00
