A wine made as a hearty and flavoursome tribute to Waimea Estate founder Trevor Bolitho. This is 63% Cabernet Franc, 32% Syrah and 5% Malbec from the ‘Lansdowne' and ‘Hope' vineyards co-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged in mainly seasoned American oak. Bright ruby-red with a dark heart and purple hues to the colour. The nose is up-front, open and full of dark red berry fruits, boysenberries, plum jam, pepper and spices, along with fresh herbal notes. Medium-full bodied, this is plush and juicy with plenty of boysenberry and plum jam fruit flavours with confectionary notes. The sweetness of the fruit is prominent and brightened by good acid and modest tannin extraction. A flavoursome and juicy wine to serve with pizza, barbecued foods and pasta dishes over the next 3-4 years. 17.0+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $25.00 Named after Trevor Bolitho, founder of Waimea Estates, this is an unusual blend of 63% Cabernet Franc, 32% Syrah and 5% Malbec, from the Lansdowne and Hope vineyards on the Waimea Plains, given a cold soak , then co-fermented with a Bordeaux yeast to 13.0% alc. The wine was then aged in new and seasoned mainly U.S. oak for approx. 6 months. Deepish purple-hued ruby red in colour, this has a bright, fresh, aromatic bouquet of fresh raspberries, white pepper and spicy darker fruits that is lifted and friendly. Dry and medium-weighted, the bright spicy red berries, pepper and raspberry flavours are presented very harmoniously and with immediate approachability. Softly structured, the tannin extraction is modest, and the suppleness allows the fruit to feature. Good, fresh acidity adds to the sweetness of fruit. This is an easy-drinking soft red with plenty of friendly flavours that will enable it to match cold meats, pasta and pizza over the next 2-4 years. 17.0+/20 Jan 2011 RRP $23.90
