Waimea Estates Nelson Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 28-Jun-2012
Dark, deep, black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an intense, but elegantly proportioned and aromatic bouquet of blackberry fruits lifted with violetty perfumes, black and white pepper and spicy oak in the background. Medium-full bodied, softly concentrated flavours of black berry fruits and pepper show with good richness and some juiciness. The textures are supple with fine tannin providing good drive through the palate, and lacy acidity enlivening the fruitiness. The wine has a building density, and finishes with moderately long nuances of spices and liquorice. This is a softly concentrated and supple Syrah with spiciness. Serve with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 5-6+ years. Syrah fruit from the ‘Golden Hills' and ‘Lansdowne Road' sites, destemmed, given a cold soak and co-fermented with a small amount of Viognier to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new oak, predominantly French. 17.5+/20 Jun 2012 RRP $25.00
