Waimea Estates Nelson Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 03-Nov-2015
Bright, even, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is fresh with vibrantly ripe and rich fruit aromas of dark raspberries and cherries entwined with plum, liquorice, violet florals, herbs and nuances of minerals. Medium-full bodied, the fruit is stylishly restrained in expression, gently unfolding rich raspberry and cherry fruit. The flavours build in depth to form a positive and concentrated core with plum, raspberry liqueur and liquorice layers. The sweet fruit is balanced by fine-grained, supple tannin extraction and structure, and light, lacy acidity. The mouthfeel has energy and tension alongside the juiciness, and the flavours carry to a long, rich well-packed, sweet finish. This is a supple, concentrated, sweet-fruited Pinot Noir with stylishly rich raspberry, plum and liquorice flavours. Match with wild duck, pork and venison dishes over the next 5-6 years. Estate fruit from 4 sites on the Waimea Plains, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak. 18.0/20 Nov 2015 RRP $25.00
