Waimea Estates Nelson Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Oct-2014
Fruit from 4 estate vineyards on the Waimea Plains, given a cold soak and fermented with minimal crushing to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak. Light ruby-red colour with some youthful purple hues, lighter on rim. This has an elegantly concentrated nose of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruit aromas with a core of raspberry liqueur melded with herb and earthy detail. Subtle layers of red fruits, florals and pepper emerge in the glass. Medium-bodied, the fruit is softly restrained, showing sweet raspberry and dark red and black berry flavours. The fruit is complexed by subtle herb and mineral notes, and a soft, dense core is the feature on palate. Fine tannin extraction provides structure and vinosity, with fresh acidity in the background lending freshness. The wine flows with concentration to a moderately long finish of red and black fruits. This is a softly concentrated Pinot Noir with red and black fruits and balanced structure. Match with poultry, pork, veal and lamb over the next 4-5 years. 17.5/20 Oct 2014 RRP $25.00
