Waimea Estates Nelson Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 15-Oct-2013
Pinot Noir fruit from 4 sites on the Waimea Plains given a cold soak and fermented with a portion of whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in French oak barrels. Very even ruby-red colour with a suggestion of garnet, lighter on edge. The bouquet is gently concentrated with a firm core of ripe dark red berry fruit aroma, with harmoniously interwoven nuances of raspberry liqueur, herbs and minerals, along with oak toast. Medium-full bodied, the fruit expression is restrained, showing savoury red berry fruits intermingling with dark red floral notes, dark herbs and oak. There is good depth, weight and presence, along with some alcohol drive. A soft mouthfeel from supple and fine tannins, and rounded acidity adds to the harmony on palate, and the flavours flow to a moderately long finish with red fruit and oaky elements. This is a full, soft and gentle flavoured Pinot Noir with good presence and harmony. Match with poultry, pork and Mediterranean fare over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5+/20 Oct 2013 RRP $29.99
