Waimea Estates Nelson Gruner Veltliner 2014

Gruner Veltliner from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Oct-2014
Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on rim. The nose is tightly bound with light herbal fruit aromas along with white pepper, white stonefruits and florals and delicate notes of chalky minerals, the aromatics showing good depth. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, light flavours of white stonefruits, lifted florals and fresh herbs develop in richness, forming a moderately concentrated palate with good vinous presence. The fruit sweetness is enhanced by some alcoholic and phenolic drive, the textures very fine and flowing. The mouthfeel has a soft density and carries to a dry, minerally finish with soft floral and herb nuances. This is a softly dense, subtly flavoured dry Gruner Veltliner. Serve with poultry and most white meats, and Mediterranean fare over the next 2-3+ yeas. Fruit from the ‘Richmond Railway Reserve’ and ‘Annabrook’ vineyards, cool-fermented to 13.5% alc. and 4.4 g/L RS, the wine given limited lees contact. 17.5-/20 Oct 2014 RRP $23.00
