Waimea Estates Nelson Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 21-Dec-2011
Fruit primarily from the company's ‘Lansdowne' and ‘Annabrook' sites on the Waimea Plains, with 14% from Ruby Bay, cool-fermented to 14.5% alc. and 12.3 g/L rs, some portions of the wine undergoing lees maturation. Bright straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is intensely concentrated with ripe exotic stonefruit, rose-petal floral and spice aromas, unfolding layers of musk and herbs in the glass. Off-dry to taste, this is richly packed with flavours of luscious, honieed spices, exotic florals and musky fruits, with ginger and lychees emerging. The palate is concentrated and densely textured, very smooth with an oiliness. A little alcohol heat is noticeable, and the acidity soft, contributing to a rich breadth. The wine has a long finish with layers of perfume, honey, musk and caramel. This is a rich and powerful Gewurztraminer with layers of exotic flavours and a near unctuous mouthfeel. Enjoy with poultry, pork and cheeses over the next 3-4+ years. 18.5+/20 Dec 2011 RRP $23.00
