Waimea Estates Nelson ‘Edel’ 2010

Blended White from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 14-Sep-2011
Inspired by the ‘Edelzwicker' blends of aromatic varieties in Alsace, this is 47% Riesling and 41% Pinot Gris from the stony-soiled Waimea Plains and 12% Gewurztraminer from the clay soils of Ruby Bay. Fermented to 13.5% alc. and 7.7 g/L rs, the wine was aged on lees. Full, light golden hued straw-yellow colour, this has an intense and penetrating bouquet of florals, spices savoury tropical fruits and exotic herbs, along with steely, minerally elements. Slightly sweet, this has spices, florals, apricots and savoury Turkish Delight flavours on an open and broadly expressed palate with some depth, weight and concentration. The textures are oily, but freshness is retained by slippery acidity. Spicy notes linger on the finish. The flavours are tending to blowsy, but the palate has drive and acid cut. Match with Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 17.5/20 Sep 2011 RRP $21.00
