Waimea Estates Nelson ‘Classic’ Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Feb-2013
Fruit from the ‘Hunter' block, cool-fermented to 12.2% alc. and 16 g/L rs. Very pale straw colour with slight green hues, the bouquet is very finely proportioned with lifted and penetrating aromatics, showing piquant lime and citrus fruit notes along with honey and exotic elements. Off-dry to taste, this is a wine of refinement and elegance, the fruit flavours of limes and honeysuckle lifted and light, but with noticeable tightness and concentration, and driven by the very fine-textured core. The palate has lively, lacy acidity that is slippery in mouthfeel and the wine has a very long, sustained finish. This will develop greater interest over the next 4-5 years easily. 18.5+/20 Feb 2013 Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour with some green hues. The bouquet is very refined and elegant in presentation with subtly interwoven aromas of lime fruit, fresh herbs, exotic florals and honeysuckle, quite understated initially, but with building with intensity. Medium in sweetness, this is beautifully and harmoniously constructed with balanced flavours of lime fruit, florals and honey, part of an amalgam of citrus and tropical fruits. Smooth and very fine textured, a near creamy, unctuousness is balanced by bright, lacy acidity. The palate has an excellent core, drive and line that flows to a long and sustained finish with exotic, sherbet nuances. A medium Riesling of excellent harmony, smooth textures and a touch of the exotic. Serve with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 4-5+ years. Fruit from the ‘Hunter' block, cool-fermented to 12.5% alc. and 12.6 g/L rs. 18.5-/20 Nov 2012 RRP $20.00 Bright, clear, pale straw-yellow colour. The bouquet is very fine and elegant with toasty complexities just beginning to appear alongside refined aromas of limes and herbs. Medium-dry to taste, delicate and refined flavours are supported by fine, lacy acidity. The mouthfeel is gentle and flows seamlessly, with subtle floral and minerally nuances that show with detail and beauty.
