Waimea Estates Nelson ‘Classic’ Riesling 2009

Riesling from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 09-Feb-2013
Fruit from the ‘Hunter' vineyard fermented in stainless-steel to 12.0% alc. and 14.2 g/L rs, the wine aged on fine lees. Straw-yellow colour with green hues, youthful. The bouquet is refined and elegant, with subtle and interwoven aromas of lime fruit with honey and toasty turpene secondary development in a detailed thread. Off-dry to taste, the palate combines lusciousness with restraint and style. A fine core shows with linearity, and there is poise between slightly drying phenolics and lacy acidity. The wine features a soft-textured, nuanced, dry finish with excellent length. 18.5+/20 Feb 2013 Full, light straw colour with slight lemony-gold hues. The bouquet is one of interwoven complexities and integration, limes, honey and toast unfolding in layers. Medium-dry, the palate is soft, with luscious honied flavours and florals totally harmonious with secondary toasty nuances. Unctuous in texture, the acidity is lively and provides excellent tension and line, leading to a very long, delicately nuanced finish of honey and toast. Fruit from the ‘Hunter' vineyard, fermented to 12.0% alc. and 14.2 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees. 19.0-/20 Oct 2012 Bright, even, pale straw yellow, this has a tight nose showing lime juices with complexing toasty nuances that show the wine entering the path of secondary development. There is a mineral austerity which will evolve with even greater interest with time in the bottle. Though with 14.2 g/L rs, this is off-dry to taste, as the acidity levels are bracing and provide the palate with a mouth-watering freshness. An elegant wine, with 12.0% alc., this has subtlety, partly from the mineral and lime flavours seemingly restrained. However, this will open out and reveal its full quality over the next 4-6 years. Made from fruit from the Hunter vineyard. 17.0+/20 Dec 2010 RRP $18.50
