Waimea Estates Nelson Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 03-Nov-2015
Brilliant, full and even lemon-yellow colour with green hues. This has an elegantly proportioned, concentrated nose of ripe citrus fruits and white stonefruits entwined with subtle mealy, nutty and spicy oak notes and complexing flinty lees. Some creamy barrel-ferment and lemon-curd MLF aromas add to the richness and depth. Medium-bodied, the palate features tightly bound and concentrated flavours of stonefruits melded with mealy and nutty layers, unfolding toasty oak and flinty complexities. The wine follows a rich, creamy-textured core and fine line, the mouthfeel lively and refreshing from lacy, cutting acidity which adds to the linear drive. The flavours lead to a very long, lingering, mealy, flinty and citrussy fruited finish. This is an elegantly concentrated citrussy and mealy Chardonnay with flinty complexities and creamy richness, and fine acid cut. Match with seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Clones 15, 95, 2/23 and Mendoza from the Waimea Plains, fermented in barriques and puncheons to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months in new and seasoned French oak, undergoing batonnage and partial MLF. 18.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $23.00
