Waimea Estates Nelson Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 02-Jul-2014
Bright straw-yellow colour with light, green-gold hues, pale on edge. The nose is fresh and elegantly firm with bright fruit aromas of yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit, lifted by some spicy oak, and enriched by nuances of buttery barrel-ferment and MLF. There is a refreshing, steely vibrancy to the expression. Dry and medium-bodied, tightly bound and well-proportioned flavours of stonefruits and citrus fruits show with a bright, mouthwatering freshness. The fruit forms a refined and concentrated core which is carried by lively acid tension. Complexing nutty oak and creamy MLF nuances unfold, providing detail and interest, and the wine follows a soft-textured, line to a long finish. This is an elegant and well-concentrated Chardonnay with fresh, vibrant fruit and underlying creamy textures. Serve with roasted poultry and pork dishes over the next 4+ years. Clones 95, 15 and 2/23 from the company’s Waimea Plains vineyards, fully barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in new and seasoned French oak, the wine undergoing batonnage and MLF. 18.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $29.99
