Waimea Estates ‘Bolitho SV’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2007

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 15-Apr-2011
A ‘Bolitho Signature Vineyard' wine, made from clones 114, 115, 667 and 777 from Waimea's ‘Packhouse' vineyard on the Waimea Plains, fully destemmed, given five days cold soak, then fermented to 14.5% alc., and aged 12 months in 50% new French oak. This has a distinctly complex, Burgundian style. Dark, deep ruby-red colour with garnet hues, this has a powerful, warm and savoury nose of dark berry fruits, mushrooms and forest-floor. Medium full-bodied, the flavour expression is still tightly bound. Dark red berry fruits with secondary complexities of earth and mushrooms, truffles and game meat are beginning to show. Surprisingly soft, supple tannins form the framework. Fruit sweetness with hints of toasty oak and resin nuances carry through to the long, sustained finish. A food-friendly wine to match with duck and venison dishes over the next 4-6 years. 18.5+/20 Apr 2011 RRP $32.00
