Waimea Estates ‘Barrel Selection’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2008

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Nelson
Review Date : 24-Mar-2011
Moderately deep ruby-red colour with pale purple hues, this has a bouquet of rich, ripe dark raspberry and cherry fruits, quite concentrated and complexed by savoury notes and oak char. On palate showing dark berry fruits with funky mushroom and charry oak, with a touch of resin-like complexities. This is a solid and densely packed wine with a soft plumpness, but underlined by harmonious tannins. Quite direct in its flavour presentation and now showing some hints of secondary development and complexity. Made from clones 5, 667 and 10/5 from estate vineyards on the Waimea Plains and from the Marr's Golden Hills site, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc. The wine was then matured in French and American oak for 9 months. The wine is a blend of the best barrels. 17.5-/20 Mar 2011 RRP $23.90
