Von Kesselstatt Kasler Nies’chen Riesling Kabinett 2009

Riesling from Germany
Review Date : 31-Jan-2012
From the Ruwer. Bright, light straw-yellow. This has a very soft, gentle and restrained nose of white florals and honey, initially held back by a touch of reduction, but blossoming to show perfumes and exotic floral notes. Medium-dry, flavours of florals, citrus fruits, apples and flint are underlined by a little flintiness and minerals. Lovely, crisp acidity balances the sweetness and fruit flavours, and the overall presentation is one of delicacy with an array of aromatic characters. This is a lighter wine, but voluminous in florals. This will develop more interesting savoury nuances over the next 4-5 years. 10.0% alc. 18.0-/20  Jan 2012 Fruit from 4.4 ha of estate vines, the vineyard at 60% slope, on black slate soils. Bright, light golden-yellow colour, pale on rim. This has a full nose with concentrated aromas of ripe, exotic florals, talc, honey and minerals, along with a reductive component interwoven with the fruit. Medium in sweetness, this displays a gentle delicacy of soft talc, sherbet and mineral flavours, with notes of limes and yellow florals, building to form a concentrated core. The acidity is soft and textures smooth and seamless, adding a lusciousness to the palate. An underlying thread of reduction provides good line and length, the finish sustained and dry. This is a warm vintage Ruwer wine, ripe and soft textured, but still with delicacy. Serve as an aperitif and with subtle Asian cuisine over the next 4+ years. 18.0-/20 Jan 2012 RRP $35.00
