Volcanic Hills Marlborough Pinot Gris 2014

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 19-Oct-2014
Mainly Awatere Valley fruit with a small portion of Wairau Valley fruit cool-fermented to 13.0% alc. and 6.4 g/L RS, the wine aged on light lees. Bright, very pale straw colour, with a faint suggestion of blush, near colourless on rim. This has a tight and concentrated nose of white stonefruits with a delicate floral lift and nuances of honeysuckle. The aromatics are clean, pure and steely with freshness and clarity. Off-dry to taste, tightly bound, light flavours of white stonefruits and honeysuckle form a slender core. This is uncomplicated and up-front. A fine, grainy phenolic texture underlines the fruit and along with crisp acidity lends a firm linearity. Some exotic floral nuances emerge and lead to a brisk, acid-driven, dry finish. This is a crisp, off-dry, elegant Pinot Gris with some firmness. Serve as an aperitif, with seafood and Asian fare over the next 2+ years. 16.5+/20 Oct 2014 RRP $22.95
