Volcanic Hills Marlborough Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 14-Apr-2014
Marlborough fruit cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.4% alc. and 6.8 g/L RS. Bright straw-yellow colour, lighter on edge. The bouquet is softly full with restrained aromas of ripe white and yellow stonefruits, with lifted pear and honeysuckle notes, growing to show good presence, revealing hints of minerals. Off-dry to taste, subtle and gentle layers of ripe stonefruits meld with pears and honey opening to fill the mouth. This is open and soft-textured, and the flavours flow smoothly and harmoniously, following a rounded palate. The acidity is discreet guiding the flavours with very fine phenolics to a gentle and restrained finish with a mellow richness. This is a subtly flavoured and smooth-flowing off-dry Pinot Gris to match with Thai, Japanese and Vietnamese fare over the next 3-4 years. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $22.95
