Volcanic Hills Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 14-Apr-2014
Even ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. The nose is elegant with a concentrated core of ripe dark red cherries and raspberries, with underlying thyme herbs and subtle oaking, revealing some raspberry liqueur and milk chocolate notes. Medium-full bodied, flavours of sweet and bright raspberry fruit and herbs shows with lusciousness, and are underlined by fine grainy tannins. The palate flows along a firm, concentrated line, the acidity in the background. There is good drive, carrying the wine to a light, dry, textured finish. This is a bright and sweet fruited Pinot Noir with a firm and dry mouthfeel. Serve with coq au vin and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. Hand-picked fruit, 95% destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 11 months in 20% new oak. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $34.95
