Bright, very even, pale straw-yellow colour with lemon-green hues. The nose is softly lifted with exotic white florals and aromatic herbs, along with green stonefruit and gooseberry fruit notes. This is fresh, refined and piquant, revealing some mineral and nutty suggestions with aeration. Dry to taste and firmly concentrated, bright fruit flavours of gooseberries, herbs and blackcurrant leaf show with excellent linearity and vibrancy. Racy acidity enhances the fruit lusciousness and lends vitality, cut and bite. A fine phenolic thread emerges, leading to a refreshing, lively finish. This is a vibrant and lively Sauvignon Blanc with gooseberry and blackcurrant flavours. Serve with salads and vegetables, and seafood and poultry over the next 2 years. Fruit from the north-facing ‘Maxwell’ vineyard in the Ben Morven Valley foothills, cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 3.6 g/L RS, the wine given extended lees contact. 18.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $24.00
