Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Keltern’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Jun-2012
Bright straw-yellow colour with youthful green hues. The nose is full, rich and inviting with integrated and interwoven aromas of bright citrus fruit, nutty, mealy oak with toast and flinty layers, all accessible and evenly presented. Medium-bodied, elegantly rich flavours of citrus and mealy fruit, toasty, nutty oak form a harmonious amalgam and flow seamlessly across a softly textured palate. Discreet acidity provides good freshness and balance, and with the restrained alcohol provides excellent line, leading to a long, soft, nutty, flinty finish. This is an elegant and wonderfully balanced, harmonious Chardonnay with complex layers to match with poultry and pork over the next 4-5+ years. 79% clone 95, 21% clone 15 from the ‘Keltern' vineyard, WBP and fully barrel fermented, 53% by indigenous yeast to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in 37% new French oak barriques, with 63% undergoing MLF. 18.5+/20 Jun 2012 RRP $36.99
