Villa Maria ‘Single Vineyard – Braided Gravels’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Nov-2015
Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red, near impenetrable. Very elegant and sleek on bouquet, seamless and smooth in presentation, with pure black and dark red plum fruits, a little floral lift and oak shine. Finesse here. Very finely proportioned, smooth and silky textured with ripe, succulent black and red plum and berry fruits, lifted by beautifully detailed fragrances. The wine flows along a vey fine line, the mouthfeel quite slippery. Very long and lingering finish, with sweet fruit, finely expressed oak and aromatic lift. Fruit from the ‘Joseph Soler’ vineyard, fermented to 14.0% alc., the ine 3-4 weeks on skins and aged 18 months in 35% new French oak. Certified BioGro organic. 19.0+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $59.99 Very dark, black-hued purple-red colour, slightly lighter on rim, and very youthful in appearance. The nose is very fresh and aromatic with primary fruit aromas of black berried and black plum fruits, lifted by black and violet florals, revealing a subtle line of liquorice, dark herbs, black minerals and lifted oak. The aromatics are tightly bound, sleek and refined in expression. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, deep and intense flavours of black berried and plum fruit show with sweet, lifted oak and nuances of black earth and minerals. The mouthfeel is smooth-flowing, sleek and silky, with very fine-grained tannins and extraction, and integrated, fresh acidity. This has youthful fruit brightness and vibrancy that carries to a lively, long lingering finish with soft herbal and floral elements. This is a very elegant, sleek and smooth, refined Merlot with aromatic black fruits, minerals and a vibrant, lively mouthfeel. Match with beef, lamb and venison over the next 8-10+ years. 100% Merlot from selected parcels in the ‘Joseph Soler’ vineyard fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 35% new French oak. Certified BioGro organic. 19.0+/20 Oct 2015 RRP $59.99
