Full, very dark, impenetrable black-red colour with purple hues. The nose is full and refined in expression with aromas of ripe black plum and black berried fruits along with black and dark-red floral notes and fragrant pencilly oak. This has intensity and exudes finesse and perfume. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound and wonderfully concentrated with deeply packed flavours of richly sweet black plum and black berried fruit entwined with iron-earth and mineral detail, lifted by pencilly oak. This is beautifully proportioned with considerable extract, the tannins fine and powdery, the palate underlined by integrated acidity providing gentle drive and linearity. The wine carries to an elegant, but very long finish of ripe black plums and nuances of aromatic oak. This is a beautifully refined and proportioned Merlot with rich black plum flavours, fine oak and considerable extraction and structure. 10-12+ years. 100% Merlot, 60% from ‘Twyford Gravels’ and 40% ‘Omahu Gravels’, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 2 weeks on skins and aged 18 months in 35% new French oak barriques. 650 cases made. 19.0+/20 Sep 2016 RRP $49.99
