Villa Maria ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 11-Nov-2015
Impenetrable black-hued purple-red colour. The nose is elegant in proportion and very refined in expression, with intense and penetrating aromas of blackcurrants and cassis, unfolding sweet oak and complex iron-earth and mineral notes. The aromatics smell ‘silky-smooth’! This is rich and powerful on palate with deeply concentrated flavours of blackcurrants, cassis and black berried fruits. The concentration and extraction match the fruit richness, and the poise and balance striking. Oaking is perfect, lending a degree of exotic shine. Fresh, lively acidity lends great vitality and energy, as well as adding to the succulence. A complete expression. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot, 88% from ‘Twyford/Vidal’ and 12% from ‘Omahu Gravels’ fermented to 13.5% alc., the Cabernet on skins 4-6 weeks and the Merlot 3-4 weeks, the wine aged 18 months in 30% new French oak. 19.0+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $49.99
