Villa Maria ‘Reserve’ Clifford Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Nov-2014
Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has a very fine, tightly concentrated and piercing nose of cut grass, nettles and minerals, classical herbaceous Awatere Valley in expression, revealing subtle secondary green bean elements and refreshing snow pea notes. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, this has a soft, densely packed core of fresh, cut grass, nettles and beans, the flavours focussed and intense. The wine flows smoothly, along a very fine-textured line with soft, ripe acidity lending good energy and drive. The satin-like mouthfeel belies the presence and underlying power which carries the wine to a very concentrated and sustained grassy finish. This is a grassy, penetrating Sauvignon Blanc, with smooth textures and strong drive. Serve with seafood, salads and vegetables, and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Fruit from two sub-regions in the Awatere Valley, predominantly in the east, cool-fermented to 13.0% alc. and 3.6 g/L RS. 18.5/20 Nov 2014 RRP $24.00
