Villa Maria ‘Reserve Barrique Fermented’ Gisborne Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Gisborn
Review Date : 11-Nov-2015
Light golden hued straw-yellow colour with green tints. This has a very soft, gently voluminous nose, with elegance and depth, showing ripe and aromatic tropical fruits with delicate nutty detail and subtle oak vanilla. This is smooth and integrated, and very harmonious. Medium-full bodied, the mouthfeel is soft, plush, rich and rounded, with lifted tropical fruit flavours entwined with mealy and nutty waves, along with toasty oak elements. The wine is smooth-flowing, but well-poised and vibrant with good acidity. The wine is elegant, rather than broad in proportion and seamless. One of the most refined ‘Reserve Barrique Fermented’ Chardonnays yet. 47% Mendoza, with 37% clone 95 and 16% clone 15, 80% from ‘McDiarmid Hill, Patutahi and 20% from ‘Katoa’, Manutuke, hand-picked, WBP, 56% indigenous yeast and all barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barriques with batonnage and 75% MLF. 18.5+/20 Nov 2015 RRP $34.99
