Villa Maria ‘Private Bin; Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2015

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 23-Jul-2015
Brilliant light straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on edge. The nose is beautifully poised with fresh, lifted esters intermingling with vibrant, primary aromatic fruit aromas of gooseberries, passionfruit, fresh white florals and fresh herbs. The fruit exudes a subtle richness and simultaneously a thirst-quenching minerality as it builds in depth and soft concentration with aeration. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate unfolds a full and layered array of fruit flavours, expressed ethereally, showing pungent passionfruit harmoniously integrated with tropical fruits, gooseberries, herbs and snow peas. The mouthfeel is very soft, accentuating the richness and sweetness of the fruit, but has fine, background, lacy acidity providing lift and vibrancy. A very delicate textural thread guides the wine to a sustained, dry finish with a broad range of herbal and stonefruit nuances. This is a softly, full, fresh and poised Sauvignon Blanc with a flow of fruit flavours and a gentle richness. Match with smoke mussels and salmon dishes over the next 2+ years. Wairau and Awatere Valley fruit cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 4.0 g/L RS with TA 6.8 g/L and pH 3.25. 18.0-/20 Jul 2015 RRP $15.99
