Villa Maria ‘Cellar Selection’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2013

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 02-Jun-2015
Full, deep, ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on the rim. The bouquet is initially light and restrainem slowing revealing ethereal strawberry compote and dark red berry fruits with subtle plum notes and violet florals. Some herbal detail interest unfolds, adding subtle complexity. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, ethereal strawberry, cherry and herb flavours are enlivened by finely poised acidity and underlined by fine-grained tannins. The acid vibrancy and vitality drive the palate and fruit with good linearity, and the wine grows in floral aromatics that carry to an elegant, moderately sustained finish with crispness and some grip. This is an elegant, classically fresh Marlborough Pinot Noir with red fruits and florals. Match with firm-fleshed seafood, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the Wairau Valley, approx. 60% and 40% from the Awatere Valley, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented partially with indigenous yeasts o 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new French oak barriques. 17.5/20 June 2015 RRP $24.99
