Villa Maria ‘Cellar Selection’ Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 15-Jun-2015
Very dark, saturated black-hued purple-red colour. The nose is full and voluminous with densely packed aromas of very ripe black and dark red berry fruits harmoniously infused with lifted violet florals and fragrant black pepper. The fruit has beautiful aromatic purity and blossoms softly. Medium-full bodied, rich and mouthfilling flavours of ripe black berried fruits, black pepper and earthy notes unveil black and violet floral notes. The fruit is framed by plenty of powdery tannins and dry, fine-grained extraction that lend a dry, textured mouthfeel. The wine flows evenly across the palate, with a firm underlying core of pepper, spices and florals carrying the wine to a soft-textured, dry finish. This is a seamless flowing black-fruited, aromatic Syrah with fine, dry, powdery tannins. Match with casseroles slow cooked lamb and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 6-7+ years. Syrah fruit, 60% from the Gimblett Road area and 40% from the ‘Waikahu’ vineyard in the Bridge Pa Triangle, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 17 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 18.5-/20 Jun 2015 RRP $24.99
