Villa Maria ‘Cellar Selection’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Jun-2015
A blend of 69% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc, predominantly Gimblett Gravels sourced, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 15% new oak. Very full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues on the rim. The nose is elegantly concentrated with ripe aromas of spicy black plums blackberries, cassis and blackcurrants, along with subtle exotic, cedary oak, the aromatics lifted and fresh with primary expression. Medium-bodied, fine and tightly concentrated, sweetly ripe fruit flavours of black plums, currants and cassis show with softness and succulence. The mouthfeel is balanced with fine tannin extraction lending suppleness to the palate line. The fruit is bright with vitality and carries to a very long, concentrated and well-packed finish. This is an elegant Merlot/Cabernet with vibrancy and finesse with concentrated black plum and cassis flavours and fine tannin structure. Match with lamb, beef, venison and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-6+ years. 18.5/20 Jun 2015 RRP $17.99
