Fruit from 76% Awatere and 24% Wairau valleys, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged a year in French oak barriques. Moderately deep ruby-red colour with purple hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is softly voluminous with good intensity of ripe, dark raspberry and cherry fruit aromas with hints of plums, dark herbs and spices. Medium-bodied, the flavours of raspberries and red liquorice are lifted by fresh, lacy acidity. The palate has a lively mouthfeel with good underlying power and drive, and is supported by supple, grainy tannins. The up-front fruit is the feature and is carried by the acidity to an elegant and slender finish with good lingering nuances. This is a fresh, lacy, up-front Pinot Noir with supple mouthfeel. Serve with poultry and pork, and with Asian cuisine over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Jun 2013 RRP $30.00
