Vidal ‘Reserve Series’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Jun-2013
Bright straw-yellow colour with slight golden-green hues, pale edged. This has a full and solid bouquet packed with a complex aromatic amalgam of mealy, nutty stonefruits, evenly interwoven with soft, flinty reductive elements. Medium-full bodied, this is solid and rounded on palate with deep, mouthfilling flavours of stonefruits, mealy, nutty flavours and layers of smoke, flint and minerals providing detailed interest and richness. The acidity is restrained, resulting in a soft, matty textured mouthfeel, and the flavours are carried to a full, moderately sustained finish. This is a fulsome and well-concentrated Chardonnay with a range of complexing flavours. Match with firm-fleshed fish, poultry and pork over the next 4+ years. Barrel-fermented, partially by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in French barriques with lees contact. 17.5/20 Jun 2013 RRP $23.00
