Vidal ‘Reserve Series’ Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 30-Jun-2011
Very full, very dark, near impenetrable purple-hued black-red colour, this has a concentrated and dense nose of black berry fruits and black pepper with balanced, spicy, toasty oak. The fruit aromas are tightly bound and still shy, but have presence. A medium-bodied wine, bright, vibrant black pepper and black berry fruit flavours are balanced with exotic spices and oak toast. The flavours are lifted by fresh acidity and very supple, gentle tannin extraction enhances the fruit sweetness, making the wine approachable now. 100% Syrah from the ‘Omahu Gravels' and ‘Twyford Gravels' vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels region, fully destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in French oak barrels. Serve with pasta and Middle Eastern or Asian poultry, pork and lamb dishes over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2011 RRP $29.99
