Dark, moderately deep, ruby-red colour with black hues, lighter on rim. The nose is full with ripe aromas of black cherries and dark red plums entwined with layers of liquorice, spices and violet florals, the aromatics showing good depth and concentration. Medium to medium-full bodied, flavours of ripe and plush black cherry and plum fruit form a full, soft mouthfeel with fine-grained, supple tannins in support. Soft, ripe acidity adds to the roundness and density, and the good core carries to a softly concentrated long finish with liquorice nuances. This is a soft, fulsome, supple and concentrated Pinot Noir with ripe black fruits. Match with mushroom risotto, pork, lamb and beef dishes over the next 4 years. Marlborough fruit, 52% Wairau Valley and 48% Awatere Valley, given a cold soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 13% new French oak barriques. 18.0-/20 June 2015 RRP $24.99
