Vidal ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Jun-2015
Bright pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on edge. The nose is moderately full, growing in depth and breath with time in the glass, showing a core of citrus and white stonefruits entwined with complexing flinty lees and reductive gunsmoke elements, and penetrating nuances of minerals. Medium-bodied, full and mouthfilling flavours of savoury white stonefruits and citrus fruits form a positive and even amalgam of flint, nutty oak and smoke. The wine is soft-textured with plenty of weight and presence, balanced by poised acidity, lending good elegance. This has cut and linearity, and the flavours lead to a soft, flinty finish. This is an elegant, mouthfilling Chardonnay with flinty interest and fresh acidity. Match with creamy sauce white meat dishes over the next 4 years. Fruit from the ‘Kokako’, ‘Keltern’ and Gimblett Gravels vineyards and partially indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 15% new French oak with partial MLF. 18.0/20 Jun 2015 RRP $19.99
