Vidal ‘Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Oct-2015
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on edge. This has an elegant and tightly bound nose of black berried fruits, liquorice, black pepper and spices, lifted by black and violet florals and mineral elements. Medium-full bodied and elegant in presentation, rich and luscious flavours of ripe black fruits are enriched by liquorice, black pepper and Asian spice notes, and lifted by black florals and mineral detail. The fruit is underlined by fine-grained tannins forming a fine line with drive and intensity, and the wine is satiny in flow. Sweet new oak elements unfold to lift the fruit, and the palate carries to a soft, long lingering finish of black pepper and spices. This is an elegant, refined Syrah with black fruits, florals and spicy, sweet oak. Serve with Asian duck and Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 6+ years. Syrah fruit, from 89% ‘Omahu Gravels’ and 11 ‘Twyford Gravels’, destemmed and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 40% new French oak barrels. 18.5/20 Oct 2015 RRP $24.99
