Full, dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has a full, deep and rich nose with interwoven layers of ripe blackberries and black plums, along with savoury dark red fruits, spices, aromatic, nutty oak and iron-earth minerally elements. Black florals, blackcurrants and cassis emerge in the glass. Medium-full bodied, the palate is softly rich and plush with sweet, layered flavours of dark red berry, black plum and liquorice fruit, complexed by spice, earth and iron-earth notes. Some nutty oak adds to the interest and richness. The mouthfeel is smooth and harmonious with fine-grained tannin extraction and integrated acidity lending attractive accessibility and balance. The rich and sweet flavours are carried easily to a long and sustained, fine-textured finish of plums, liquorice and currants. Match with roasted lamb, beef and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years. A blend of 64% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc from the Gimblett Gravels, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 20 months in 25% new French oak barriques. 18.5/20 May 2016 RRP $19.99
