Bright, even, pale yellow gold. The nose is full, with elegant aromas of stonefruit, citrus, vanilla, candied nuts and a hint of mineral. Medium-full bodied, aromas of lemon, grapefruit and nectarine melded with vanilla, delicate spice, candied walnut and stony minerals. The fruit is ripe with concentration, and a focus of grapefruit lingers with stony minerals. Lively acidity flows with good energy and harmonious oak details of sweet vanilla and walnut. This Chardonnay is stylish with a fresh palate and harmonious, sweet oak elements. Match with roasted grouper and king prawns over the next 5+ years. Handpicked clone 95 and Mendoza from Awatere Valley, whole bunch pressed to stainless steel, racked to barrels, selected yeasts and wild yeasts for selected parcels. Weekly lees stirred through MLF, aged 10 months in barrel on fine lees, 18% new oak, 14.5% alc. 18.5/20 pts (93 pts) May 2023 RRP $40
