Vavasour ‘Felix’s Vineyard’ Awatere Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 01-Nov-2016
Moderately dark, even, ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, lighter edged. This has a firmly concentrated and tightly bound, deep nose of ripe dark raspberry and black-berried fruits harmoniously entwined with dark herbs and nuances of black minerals, along with nutty oak, unfolding dark plum and liquorice elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features rich and lusciously deep fruit flavours of dark raspberries, black cherries and dark-red plum fruit intermixed with soft notes of dark herbs, spices, liquorice and minerals, and nuances of nutty oak. The palate is rounded with a deeply concentrated, rich core and line with plenty of fine-grained tannin structure, and integrated acidity. The wine carries to a soft, rich and lingering finish of plums and liquorice. This is a full, rich, and deeply concentrated Pinot Noir with rounded berry and plum flavours along with liquorice and spice complexities, and fine extract and structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison over the next 6 years. Hand-picked fruit, clones 5 and 115 from ‘Felix’s‘ vineyard in the Awatere Valley, vines planted in 2003, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in 25% mew French oak barriques. 250 cases made. 18.5+/20 Nov 2016 RRP $41.00
