Vasse Felix ‘Filius’ Margaret River Cabernet/Merlot 2014

Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia - Western Australia
Review Date : 23-Feb-2017
Dark, deep, even ruby-red colour with black-purple hues, showing a little lighter on the rim. The nose is youthfully fresh and firm with bright, primary aromas of ripe black plums entwined with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. The aromatics are tightly bound, but intense and deep, unfolding in volume with aeration to reveal some pencilly oak elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fine in proportion with sweet, ripe black plum, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours. The mouthfeel is vibrantly fruited and supported by balanced, fine-grained tannin extraction and structure, along with subtle acid freshness, lending accessibility. The wine carries with good drive and energy to a lingering finish of black fruits. This is an elegantly concentrated, sweetly ripe, vibrant black-fruited Cabernet and Merlot blend with fine, balanced structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-6 years. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, from northern Margaret River, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 8% new French oak. 18.5/20 Feb 2017 RRP $28.50 Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues, lighter edged.
