Valli The Real McCoy Pinot Gris 2022, Central Otago

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Central Otago & Waitaki
Review Date : 23-Nov-2023
Lightly hazy (unfiltered), even, pale burnt orange-amber. The nose gently penetrates with aromas of dried herbs, orange peels, wildflowers, spice, underlying stonefruit, quince and pear. Medium-full bodied, bone-dry to taste, aromas of nectarine, pear and quince entwined with oregano, fennel, cardamon, wildflowers and orange peels. The mouthfeel is lightly creamy and flows with a ripe phenolic grip reflecting peach ice tea and refreshing acidity, lending a savoury, crunchy finish. This skin-fermented Pinot Gris is dry and refreshing with elegant fruit and a fine structure. Match with smoked eel and pork koftas over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from Gibbston, fermented with whole cluster 27-100% across the four ferments, underwent MLF, aged 11.5 months in oak. 13.5% alc. Unfined, unfiltered. 18.5+/20 pts (94 pts) Nov 2023 RRP $45
