Valli ‘Bannockburn Vineyard’ Central Otago Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 09-Feb-2014
Very full, dark, deep black-red colour. This has a full, up-front and bold nose of ripe dark plum and berry fruits with well-melded oak lift. The aromatics are harmonious and accessible with gentle nuances of stems and cedar with spice elements. Full-bodied, this is open and approachable on palate with rich, smooth and evenly intermixed flavours of plums and dark red fruits. The fruit is sweet and plush, and very even in its smooth flow, the mouthfeel underlined by fine extract and a textural line, along with restrained acidity. The finish is long, fresh and elegant. This is a plush, up-front expression with fine, underlying structure. 6-7 years. Winemaker: Grant Taylor. 18.5+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $65.00 Clones 115 and 777 from vines planted in 2000 in Bannockburn, fermented to 13.5% alc. with 30% whole bunch, the wine undergoing 21 days cuvaison and aged 11 months in 34% new French oak. Very dark, deep, purple-hued ruby-red colour, youthful in appearance. This has a softly full and harmoniously complete nose with an amalgam of ripe plum and berry fruit with complex thyme herbs, whole bunch savoury fragrances, red florals and cedary nuances . Full-bodied, broad and openly expressed, sweetly ripe and juicy dark berry fruits and plum flavours along with spices, cedar and savoury fresh herbs fill the mouth. The flavours are bold and up-front, but well-supported by fine tannin extraction and power. The acidity is discreet and subtly enlivens the palate, adding richness and drive. The flavours flow with good richness and energy to a long, sustained finish. This is a lush and plush, ripe fruited Pinot Noir with a range of sweet and complex flavours, and an open style. Match with poultry, and pork over the next 6-8 years. 290 dozen made. 18.5+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $65.00
